Are We There Yet

The sermon explores how people of faith—past and present—often try to resist God’s call with excuses. Jeremiah believed he was too young and too inadequate to be God’s prophet, but the Lord reminded him that he was chosen before birth, set apart, and empowered for the task. Just as Jeremiah’s excuses were met with God’s promises, so too our modern excuses—“I’m too old,” “I’m too young,” “I’m too busy,” “I’m not gifted”—are met with God’s assurance of presence and strength.

Through humor, real-life illustrations, and scripture, the message reminds us that excuses are tools of avoidance, but faith is the tool of obedience. God doesn’t call the qualified—He qualifies the called. Believers are invited to let go of fear, inadequacy, and poor timing, trusting that the same God who called Jeremiah, Moses, and countless others equips us to run the race faithfully. The sermon closes with a call to action: stop defending our limitations and start stepping forward in obedience, because God is already with us and has already placed His word and His Spirit within us.

Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, ‘I have put my words in your mouth."
